The Museum of Islamic Art is located in a neo-classical building complex next to the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos. It houses collections of Islamic examples from Egypt to Iraq and Arabia and ranks among the best of its kind in the world. There are demonstrated thousands of exhibits of ceramics, metal work, gold, textiles, woodcrafts, glass and others which depict the evolution of the Islamic world since the first appearance of Islam up to the Ottoman period and the evolution of the Islamic art till the 19th century. Highlights: the marbled fountain of a Cairo mansion of the 17th century, the two wooden door panels of Mesopotamia of the 8th century, a unique wat from 10th century Tiberias, the famous velvet saddle of the 16th century from Brusa. You can visit the caf? at the terrace offering a magnificent view at the historic centre of Athens!
