The Bema (ancient Forum), used by the state officials for their public appearances, dominates in the agora of ancient Corinth, built in the 4th c. B.C. It was here that the Apostle Paul was haled by his Jewish accusers, who envied the acceptance of his preaching, before the Roman proconsul Gallio.
